What is a PhD fellowship?
The PhD thesis is a 3 year contract after a Matser 2 diploma or an engineer school.
Culmination of higher learning, it is a BAC+8 diploma.
During the PhD fellowship (generally 3 or 4), the PhD student will conduct a research project about a particular domain within a research laboratory. During those years the PhD student forms himself/herself to the research with the help of his/her thesis Director(s). He/she will progressively further his/her project, identify the different possible research axis, presents his/her projects and results before a public (more or less specific) during seminaries or conferences, and obtain new skills and knowledges necessary to his/her research. The PhD student might also participate to abroad conventions or workshops during his/her thesis.
The PhD student will be asked to write at least one first author publication (or co-first) during his/her thesis about his/her projects and results. At the end of the fellowship, the PhD student must defend his thesis before a reviewer and rapporteur committee in order to become a Doctor.
During his/her fellowship, the PhD student will be have a working student status .
Student because he/she will be register at the university in order to get a diploma at the end of his fellowship. The PhD student also have to form himself/herself to the research through his/her work during his fellowship, but also with formation proposed by the Doctoral School (DS). The DS recommend to validate 4 modules/formations during the fellowship.
Worker, because he/she have a true employment contract: the doctoral contract. It grant social guaranties of a working contract conform to the public law. Its term might depends on the country of origin.
